SAVE OUR 44 RIVERS
MKGA River Protection Mission — A citizen-supported environmental initiative to document, understand, and protect Kerala's rivers through public records, scientific analysis, youth participation, and constructive government engagement.
Our Responsibility
Kerala's 44 rivers are part of our shared natural inheritance. They provide and support drinking water, agriculture, biodiversity, livelihoods, ecosystems, tourism, and community life.
They belong not only to the present generation — we have a moral and civic responsibility to protect them for those who come after us.
The Pilot River Action Plan
MKGA proposes beginning with one pilot river, studying it systematically from its origin in the Western Ghats to its coastal endpoint before scaling the model statewide.
Phase 1: Map the River
Document origin, full route, districts, Panchayats, municipalities, villages, tributaries, endpoint, and available official survey maps.
Phase 2: Public Records & RTI
Obtain legally disclosable public records regarding river boundaries, unauthorized construction, industrial effluent proceedings, and court/administrative orders.
Phase 3: Responsible Field Observation
Participating teams of youth and environmental volunteers responsibly record visible conditions (waste dumping, bank erosion, sand mining, positive conservation efforts).
Phase 4: MKGA River Status Report
Compile verified scientific data, government records, and field observations into an open-access public status report with actionable solutions.
Phase 5: Constructive Government Engagement
Present evidence-based policy briefs and restorative recommendations to local Panchayats, Pollution Control Boards, and State ministries.
Our Long-Term Vision
One River. → Then More Rivers. → Eventually All 44.
